Chapter 9

Original Appearance:

Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (1996)

Autolycus is a recurring character of the TV shows Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess. As the proclaimed King of Thieves, Autolycus is a master burglar and lockpick whose primary goal is the acquisition of material goods. He does have redeeming traits, such as avoiding killing as much as possible and even assisting for the greater good when necessary.

History Edit

Autolycus was raised by his brother Malacus when his mother died early on and his father disappeared. When his brother was robbed by a merchant via a land deal and the law did nothing, he took matters into his own hands and robbed the merchant blind, giving it to the poor. From then on, he became a thief.

Since then, Autolycus has crossed paths with the demigod Hercules and the reformed warlord Xena. Despite their differences, he is generally on good terms with them and even aids them on their adventures when the situation arises.

Role in Rakenzarn Edit

Autolycus is an optional party member. He can only be recruited on the Suiseki path of Chapter 9.

If Kyuu explores the valley a bit before entering the caves, he can find another group of bandits gloating about a recent theft and who appears to be one of their own fleeing. Continuing along the path will result in the bandits attacking Kyuu, believing him to have stolen from them. Kyuu will also find several chests empty, a sign that the secret passage has been in use.

A little after encountering Lilith, if Kyuu ran into the fleeing thief from earlier, he'll encounter him again and be revealed to be Autolycus. He has been using the passageways in his robbery attempts for some time. If the player's Alignment is Chaotic or Neutral, Autolycus will join the party. If Lawful, Kyuu will have him arrested.

Autolycus is a jack-of-all-stats character, possessing no outstanding strengths or weaknesses. He possesses a wide variety of moves and party buffs, making him adaptable against a variety of foes. He has the unique move of being able to steal items from enemies in mid-battle.

Trivia Edit

  • Autolycus is the first non original character party member from a live-action television show instead of a game, cartoon or anime.
